julia and joshua got married the day AFTER the 2nd most popular wedding date this year…they had a very small family affair…the closest the catholic church will let you come to an elopement…in portsmouth on 8/9/08.

the thing i love about these two…is they are so anti-traditional…and so ORTHODOX…which, by its very nature is fairly traditional.  they had a full catholic mass for their ceremony…but she wore a brown dress.

they took communion together…but they also walked up and down the aisle together.

(i love that they kind of look like they’re making a business deal…for LIFE.)

after the ceremony, we stole a few minutes in the church to take some portraits of the two of them.  i think this was the perfect place for it.  they are SO into each other…they didn’t even know i was there…and their ceremony was so…i don’t know how to describe it…it was one of the more meaningful ceremonies i have witnessed since i started going to weddings for a living.  my favourite part was where father marcos reminded them that the human marital relationship is an earthly mirror of Christ’s love for the church…and it is their responsibility to model that to those around them through commitment and service to each other.

as i said above, their wedding was very small…just family and a few close friends.  but julia has something like 9 brothers and sisters, so once you add in spouses and their children, the group pictures were something to behold!  i figured the smaller family units would appreciate taking advantage of having a professional photographer around willing to take family pictures.

(you know about me and letting little girls really ENJOY their pretty dresses.)

they had a picnic (panera catered sandwiches) in prescott park for their reception.  everybody changed out of their finery and there was a rousing game of ultimate frisbee going on…but more on that in a bit.

after we took a few more pictures of the bride and groom, it was time for…

FRISBEE!

i loved the way they approached their day…they incorporated all of the things that were most important to them and did not compromise.  and i love the idea of a wedding picnic!  (anyone else having a picnic in prescott park?  call me!)

i have about 12 posts to write, but please be patient!  i’m going out of town soon, and i’ve got sooooooo much to do before then!

1.  the next month-ish is RIDICULOUS in gwyn-land.  i am going to be not-home from basically 10/11-10/28.  i will still be available by email/phone to an extent, but i will not have access to all my files/photos/etc.  specifically, this means if you want to ORDER PRINTS…please submit your order by 10/5 to ensure that i can mail it before i leave.  anything submitted after that may not arrive in time to be mailed to you before my departure.

2.  i got my album cover swatch kids today.  and holy moses, people…they are HOOOOTTTT!  i was looking through them and i kind of just want to snuggle with them in bed.  or order a jacket in EVERY SINGLE FABRIC/LEATHER.  they are BEAUTIFUL.  if you’re interested in an album, email me/call me we can set up a time to get together and choose photos/cover options!  i’ve also got a couple album orders out, so i will post photos when they arrive.

but for now…i want a burrito!  (i’m headed to ny for fred & jessica’s wedding on saturday…then straight back for kate & chris’s maine wedding on sunday…the point is, all my food is gone because i’m not going to be home!)  (also, it’s pretty awesome to “hire” my dad to be my chauffeur home from one wedding so that there will still be some of me left for the next one!)
