willets homecoming

he left last september…few months of training, and then to iraq.  he’s a navy man, but he was deployed with an army unit. he left behind jared and kaitlyn, who are now 3 and 2 respectively.  and his beautiful wife, susan. i was so, so excited when susan contacted me to see if i was available to photograph their reunion.  i remember being one of those kids waiting at the end of the pier for daddy to come off the boat, watching each man in khaki and trying to figure out if THAT one was daddy.  and whether it’s a boarding ramp in an airport or a far-too-long pier…the anticipation is incredible.

this was possibly the most rewarding session i have ever photographed!

Oh Gwynn, this is AMAZING..the minute I saw the post I started choking up. Even though my military man came home 6 months ago, I wish I had been able to find someone as wonderful as you to document it all; and now I find myself always choking up at these scenes. You did such a beautiful job!

How wonderful that you were able to document/capture this homecoming for them 🙂 I hope in the coming months to be able to start doing this for area soldiers as well.

Beautiful accident. I love the heart that is created in image number 3, of Susan’s purse straps. It was the first thing I saw. Love it.
