i figured if i was gonna do a bridal show…i was gonna do it up right…i’m so, so, so pleased with how the booth and promotional materials turned out. it was a loooot of work, but it reflects me and my style-both who i am as a person and how i shoot-so well, that today i’ve got that satisfied, “i worked hard, and it was worth it.” feeling.

kate & chris are seriously fabulous, and their wedding was wonderful and beautiful (and, of course, organised perfectly by cityside events.)

and, b/c it’s one of my favourite images from last year…here’s one from kate & chris’s wedding.

this is just to let past clients, current clients, and possible future clients know that in 2 weeks i am going to be forced to raise my album prices  due to increased cost from my album supplier.  i will honour the current prices for 2 more weeks, so if you KNOW you want an album, you may either order a design i’ve already shown you, or pay a deposit on a design in order to lock in the current prices.

anyway, they are currently, this very minute, featured on offbeat bride.  which means, by extension, so am i!  it was pretty much the best way to start my morning (side note:  being self employed means that if i want to go to bed at 3 and get up at 10, i totally can.  and i do.) to fire up ye olde mac and see the most fun wedding ever getting its due accolades.  (oh, and the interest from the offbeat brides whose quirkiness i truly embrace…yeah, that doesn’t hurt either.)

so.  yay for claire and bobby (whom i love so very much), and welcome, all those who have clicked their way here from OBB.  (good thing she didn’t call it off-the-beaten-track bride, because then it would be obtb, and if someone forgot that first b, it would just be confusing.  like…i thought i was coming here to bet on grey gander to show?  ok.  rambling now.  but since i’m already rambling, little known gwyn fact:  i worked as a mutuel clerk (read:  bet taker) at the saratoga racetrack for a couple summers in college.  totally fun.)

also, i don’t think i mentioned this, because i didn’t want to advertise that i still had a desk job (not that it was a SECRET, mind you), i just didn’t want all my lovely clients to think that they weren’t getting my full attention, because that was certainly not the case.

anyway…i gave notice at my desk job, and soon i will be a 100% full-time pho-to-graph-er.

woo!

everyone’s asking me if i feel so amazing and have i celebrated?  the short answer is…nope.  it’s been coming down the pipe for a while, so i’m mostly glad to have the making-the-announcement-to-my-boss monkey off my back.  i won’t feel FREE until i don’t have to come back every morning at 8am.  then…THEN…i will devise a fabulous and creative way to celebrate.  (or maybe a divinely lazy and gluttonous way…or maybe both.  maybe i’ll start my day w/ a sleep in and cookie dough for breakfast and THEN do something wildly extravagant and creative.  we’ll see.)

anyway, what does this mean for all of you?  hopefully…nothing.  in fact, i’m hoping it will create some life boundaries for me so i might be slightly LESS accessible.  you will not get an immediate email response anytime between 8am and midnight…but…you WILL get a happier, more well-rested and better adjusted photographer.  and that should translate to better photos!

I won’t tell. And be creative–this doesn’t have to be a story about how when you were 14 you broke both your legs and an arm and had to walk uphill both ways in the snow, barefoot-except you couldn’t because you had to keep the casts dry-so he carried you to school everyday…just tell me the things you love most about him. Though, if you did, in fact, break both legs and an arm and have to be carried to school everyday when you were 14…go ahead, tell me what a great support he was to you!)

The winning entry will receive a complimentary photo session–could be you and dad, your kids and your dad, or your entire family. (This session will not necessarily take place prior to Father’s day. Additionally, clients farther than 35 miles may be scheduled to coincide with my travels closer to their area.)

I’ll leave you with a story about me and my dad. It’s just me and my sister, so I think sometimes I was the “son” he never had, given my tomboyish tendencies. When I was about 8, we were doing yardwork, and dad had a rake handle. He told me to “pitch” him a racquetball. Dad played in a softball league, so he was pretty good at the whole batting thing. So good, in fact, that he hit a line drive right up the center. I, however, am a far better fielder than he was expecting. I stopped that ball with the middle of my forehead. I think he felt pretty bad, but I got him back a few years later when we’d swapped positions. He was pitching a softball to me, and I hit a low line drive right into the top of his foot. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather get a racquetball in the forehead than a softball (off a heavy aluminum bat) on the arch of my foot!
