carolyn + jonah

today i met up with carolyn + jonah at odiorne state park (yeah yeah, i know! SAME DAY BLOGGING…AMAZING.) they are SO FREAKING CUTE. not to mention ridiculously photogenic. this picture below…FIRST FRAME OF THE SESSION. unheard of…magic at first click? no way. and yet…carolyn and jonah pulled it off.

i asked them how they met and was told, “at a house party.” but it wasn’t quite as simple as, “hey, carolyn…meet jonah. jonah, carolyn.” he showed up in a wig…with a bandana…she wanted nothing to do with him…but somehow the conversation turned to fishing, and a seed was planted…you see, carolyn is the dream of half the men in new england…totally gorgeous…but she can hang with the guys in an ice fishing shack…that’s when jonah knew she’d passed the test. (and he passed the test when he informed her it was a wig…and he turned out to be cuter than his first impression. :-D)

i’m pretty sure she looked amazing in every. single. shot. i. took. can you imagine how incredible she’s going to be as a bride?!

undefinedthey actually ASKED if they could climb this tree…seriously. ASKED! i pretty much rushed to give her a boost…jonah said this tree is the first thing he noticed upon their arrival to the park…i was more than happy to acquiesce to his desires for photos with it.

first bridal show!

undefinedyesterday i had my first bridal show experience…i participated in the nh wedding magazine’s bridal show at the haverhill country club…there were a lot of awesome vendors there, and i talked with some super fun brides. (if you’re visiting my site after meeting me at the show, hi! welcome!)

i figured if i was gonna do a bridal show…i was gonna do it up right…i’m so, so, so pleased with how the booth and promotional materials turned out. it was a loooot of work, but it reflects me and my style-both who i am as a person and how i shoot-so well, that today i’ve got that satisfied, “i worked hard, and it was worth it.” feeling.

tanya contact me this summer to see about getting some gorgeous portraits of them in their wedding day finery. often…the wedding day itself is harried and frantic or weather keeps a couple and their photographer from spending quality time together…and that’s where i came in! we met up at great island common in new castle, nh. i love shooting around the new hampshire coast, because it’s not just beach. there’s beach and sea grass, and rocks galore…often there are strange leftover navy structures from 200 years ago…impossible to run out of variety or inspiration!

these two kept me laughing, and when one of the flowers came off of her dress…we made lemonade…HELLO HAIRPIECE! i think this sort of creativity and roll-with-the-punches attitude is going to stand them in good stead in life, don’t you?

(also, SUMMER! it’s coming! yay!)

The sky is so gorgeous in these pictures. Looks like you captured the day and couple beautifully!

albums!

i received a new sample album in the mail today, and i am in love…this particular supplier sends the album in a high quality presentation box…with a black dust-protecting slip-cover. (NB: there are album suppliers i use who do not provide these things by default, but they are still rocktastic albums.) for this album i went with black…but straight up black cowhide seemed like missing an opportunity, so i went with the subtle embossed leather to keep it classic, but it still has the little extra something-something. the pages on this album are slightly thinner than other suppliers i’ve used…at first i was very slightly taken aback, but as i flipped through the album, i decided…i love that! i love that they’ve got a slightly more magazine style feel…while completely retaining that substantial “this is a quality product” comfort. and the paper…ooh la la, the paper! i believe they used fuji lustre papers (for the geeks who want to know), and they are like satin. the finish is so incredibly gorgeous, the colors are true to screen…did i mention i’m in love?

i included images of a few of my favorite spreads, but i think it goes without saying that a picture of an album doesn’t do the experience of holding a bound, archival, show-it-to-your-grandkids, keepsake justice. seeing it all come together in a flawless presentation you can actually sit down and look at makes the pictures speak that much louder. i know not everyone chooses to get an album, and that’s ok, but they’re so exquisite, it makes me extra happy when people do!

(if you’re interested in an album but aren’t sure about pricing options or what style of book you might want, please get in touch! there are a range of options and something to suit everyone!)
